TECKELS PAW APPEAL- Animal Welfare & Visitor Centre Project
The Teckels Paw Appeal is a specific fund raising initiative to support a new build project, which will provide for both Teckels animals and visitors alike. The aim is to raise £100,000 to help with the cost of building a new Welfare and Visitor Centre which will replace and upgrade the utilities, services and facilities at the animal sanctuary.
Everyone who makes a donation to the Paw Appeal will have their name, or company name included on the Teckels ‘PAW of FAME’. The PAW OF FAME will be a giant Teckels Paw logo which will eventually be mounted on the wall of the new Welfare and Visitor Centre.

Information
Teckels was established in 2003 to provide a shelter and re-homing programme for unwanted and abandoned animals. Over the years the centre has added a highly reputable boarding kennels and cattery which now goes some way to support the charity, with the rest coming from its small retail corner and continual fund raising. Unfortunately, Teckels has become a victim of its own success and no longer has the capacity to provide for the abundance of animals and visitors that pass through their doors. This has prompted the launch of the 'Paw Appeal', a specific fund raising initiative to support a new on-site build project.
The aim of the ‘Paw Appeal’ is to raise substantial funds to build a new Welfare and Visitor Centre, a project that will ultimately cost £250,000 to complete. The new centre will provide the desperately needed facilities and public areas that are so important to the day to day running of the sanctuary.
As one of the only shelters that find homes for animals regardless of their age or condition, it is paramount that enough funds are raised to complete the welfare & visitor centre in order for Teckels to continue and further extend their re-homing programme. The temporary sheds and buildings that currently exist to house the facilities will be replaced with the new centre, which will increase kennel space whilst also ensuring good working practice for the beleaguered Teckels staff and volunteers.
The building itself will incorporate a larger reception and retail shop, which will replace the current cramped reception where boarders are constantly booking in and out. The larger retail shop will also provide passing visitors a convenient place to buy everything that their pet needs on site, which in turn will enhance funds. These facilities will be housed in the spacious welcome area and will lead on to the new grooming parlour, kitten house, food preparation areas, kitchen, laundry and storage areas. These new amenities will mean that the battle Teckels staff currently have to keep animal bedding clean and dry will become a distant memory!
Staff and training areas are also planned along with an educational facility which will offer opportunities that the whole community can benefit from. The educational facility will be used to further develop Teckles’ NVQ and work experience programmes, as well as for the many school trips and community groups that visit Teckels for mini tours and experiences.
Future development will also include a small animal hospital. This will save Teckels in excess of £45,000 per year in vet bills, and the vets who volunteer to care for the animals on site also plan to provide a ‘hands on’ facility for trainee vets and nurses.
The first phase of the new build is due to be completed by April 2010. Most of the buildings being demolished to clear the site will be re-cycled and energy saving methods and materials will be used to help Teckels make savings on their heating and lighting bills.
